Police were dispatched to a report of gunshots fired in the 300 block of North 8th Street in Lebanon City on Feb. 23 at 9:51 p.m., according to a release by Lebanon City Police Chief Todd H. Breiner.

While enroute dispatchers received another call, this time reporting a man lying on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds, Breiner said in the release.

Upon arrival police found the unidentified man who was taken to a hospital where he died, the release shows.

His preliminary cause of death is due to the gunshot injuries, Breiner says.

The victim is a Lebanon resident and an autopsy will be scheduled, according to Breiner.

Police to believe this is not a random act and "suspect the victim was targeted," Breiner wrote in the release.

"Police do not believe the public in general is in danger, however the shooter has not been apprehended," the release states.

This killing is not thought to be connected with the targeted killing of 13-year-old Jason Rivera, Breiner told Daily Voice.

An investigation into this killing is ongoing.

Any one with information is asked to call the Lebanon City Police Department at 717-272-2054 or Crime Stoppers at 717-207-9800.
